Dexter

Luis and I found a new addiction this weekend. For a few weeks my glorious and wonderful TA at work has been telling me that I need to watch Dexter. That sounds like a cartoon character so I put it off until I was absolutely BORED this weekend. I downloaded the pilot on itunes and at first I was wondering what this lady thought I would enjoy about a serial killer (little does she know, huh, TDT!) but after about the 1/2 way point I was addicted.

Basically it is a story about Dexter (his last name) who is a forensic guy who specializes in blood. BUT here is the kicker that makes it 10x's better than CSI -- he's not a good guy, but he's not a bad guy either. At nights he gets the people who get away with their crimes (ie a drunk driver who keeps getting off after killing people) and he kills them. See, he's horrible but for a good cause? Anyway, you can get it on Netflix or on itunes if you don't get showtime.

Here is why I like it:

1. The plot progresses through the episodes -- nothing gets solved in 1 hour.

2. Dexter is not hard on the ol' eyes -- at all -- not even a little bit.

3. There aren't many times that you have to suspend reality. I hate that about a lot of movies and shows. The writing sucks and you have to work hard to believe it.

4. Just the right amount of gore. You know they're bleeding and their intenstines just fell onto the shrubs but it leaves you guessing about how long it takes the worms to come.

Be warned, it is on Showtime because of the gore but if you like real drama this is great. Can't wait to watch Season 2.

Cadbury Eggs -- nature's little way of giving you a kiss

Ever since we finished with Easter my Food Lion has had Cadbury Eggs 50% off so every time I pick up anything including dog food I am forced to pick up a handful of them.

I think this all stems back to my days at Eckerds when my friend, Lisa, and I would find "creative" ways to make them cost 9 cents each. I had a shoe box of them stashed under my bed and I ate them secretly like they were illegal. YUM.

Now I see them as a complete luxury item and I am forced to hoard them at every opportunity where they are even remotely on sale.

I have to go buy dishwasher liquid and I am debating about whether or not I should just bite the bullet and buy the rest of them -- but knowing my recent up and down cravings I'll probably be gagging at the thought of them tomorrow.

Back to School

One of my favorite college movies was Billy Madison and in that movie he sings a song about "back to school, back to school to prove to my dad that I'm not a fool" (you can watch the video by clicking on the name back there). That is what I was thinking as I pulled out of the driveway for 1 of 2 teacher workdays. We putzed around and got a lot done, but we still have more to do tomorrow. I love the part of the song where he says something about "I got my boots tied tied tight, hope I don't get in a fight". Best movie score evah!

Under the wire

Just a smidge under the 1 month mark since the last post. I do have some excuses tho for those faithful who still wander by to see if this has been updated:

1. First of all I was closing out 3rd quarter at school and was up to my eyes.

2. Then I went on my glorious trackout that sent me spinning into an all out hibernation and useless state.

3. Felt gnarly for a while (for unspecified reasons).

4. After a while I got to the point of wondering what I would even write about.

BUT THEN

My friend Jamie returned from her trip to N Va and had an entry up THE NEXT DAY (with captioned pictures) -- and not like that night but in a timely manner. Props to you James. So, I'm back and I'm apologetic for my lazinesssssssss.
